How our garden grows...

Things are BLOOMING around here!
Specifically, our zucchinni plants... I am so excited to try some new recipes with the blossoms!

1943 Guide to Hiring Women

I'm a working mom. Initially, I never thought I would be. But, when the time came along, I had a job I LOVED (still do!) and hey, we needed the money still, so let's just say I'm happy to do my part!
Turns out, working part time gives me the best of both worlds... enough time with my little one at home and enough time helping students in the classroom! Many times the time in the classroom remind me how special the time is at home, too!
Anyhow, ran across this vintage article about hiring women in the blogosphere. Let's just say the times were different back then... nobody would ever say this now! I had a great laugh, that's for sure! Enjoy!

Design Sponge

I read a lot of blogs. It's my favorite way to indulge in a quiet moment.
Found a happy site through one of my favorite blogs tonight.
Have a favorite movie? This girl shops stuff so you can like, LIVE in it! See the Frida section to see why I think this is SO FUN.
Fun to read, and oh so free. Well, unless I ever started shopping! (Like that necklace, totally want it!)

Armageddon- 98% Excited, 2% Scared

Sometimes I'm about to do something new. Amazing. Scary. Unfamiliar. Or possibly all of the above. And I'm not sure how I feel about it.
I always think of Owen Wilson in this scene. It always makes me laugh, and somehow reminds me how thrilling the adventure of life can be. All I know is, it's good to know you're in God's hands when life starts to feel "intense".

Shakira - Waka Waka (Español) Mundial Sudáfrica 2010

Hannah and I are at a loss: what to do now that the World Cup is over?
She loves running around kicking her squishy soccer ball... I think she wants to be a star!
I... am going to learn the Waka Waka dance.
Funny thing. I LOVE watching a video over and over to get the dance right. Turns out, so does Hannah. She's pretty excited about the hands part. I'll have to get a video of that!

the rhythm of summer

I am pausing during nap time.
Every time I turn on the radio,I hear Katy Perry singing about "California Girls"... that is the perfect summer song! Makes me want to go to the beach with my girls! I remember how carefree that was... just throw on the bikini and a dress and go!
Must stay focused. I should be packing. That is what is on my list of things to do today. It's actually on my list of things to do at some point EVERY DAY now that summer is in full swing! I've decided that there is a definite rhythm to mommyhood in the summer time, and it goes like this:
pack (for beach, pool, playdate, etc). don't forget to make lunch. come home and unpack. also clean out the lunch containers, sippy cups and the bottle (still, i know, she needs it to go to sleep!) and wash towels, dry swimsuits.
repeat.
pack and unpack.
but the playtime in between? so priceless. i do love playing with my little girl in the sunshine.
today we are meeting sara and kate to swim. after i pack for the houseboat trip. and the pool, of course.
i should not be wasting nap time.
must go!

Chopping veggies for shrimp salad. Pondering many things in my heart about this day.

why i love him...

or at least one of the reasons. there are many.
every night, micah makes my coffee. he makes really GOOD coffee, which is surprising, considering that he doesn't drink it. ever. not a drop.
he also makes the baby bottles, which soothe hannah in the middle of the night if she wakes, or keep her asleep in the wee hours of dawn if she's up early.
funny how you settle into marriage. it's those little things that mean the most to me. it's like getting a bouquet of freshly cut flowers every day. but it smells like hawaiian hazelnut. soo good. reminds me first thing in the morning that i married the best man in the world.

good idea. bad idea.

I have thoughts. Some good ideas, and some, not so much.
Classic examples follow:

Good idea:
Costco, we should sell bundles of 2liter sodas for parties. Coke, Sprite, Root Beer (or Dr. Pepper), Lemonade, Orange soda and Diet Coke. All bundled up in plastic with a handle on top.
Make me a millionaire.

Bad idea:
On my run this morning, I noticed that the classic Mustang I always admire had some water spots on it. Wanted to buff them out with my t-shirt. Thankfully, this was just a bad IDEA and not a bad DECISION.
